Hi there, we did lots of research on useful questions from the books I mentioned within the blog post and then emailed the admissions people with as many questions as we could think of. Plus, on the day you get to ask the person representing the school questions too. In our appeals the person had a map of the schools and we asked him which rooms were currently not used for teaching - for whatever reason, ie some were used for storage, some for staff, some as a temporary music room... this enabled us to demonstrate that the school had allocated rooms to non-teaching purposes thus indicating that they weren't actually full.

Anytime the guy couldn't answer one of our questions or tried to avoid answering, it seemed to go in our favour too.

Research is key, as is staying calm! The books were a real help and I'll be putting them on ebay this evening!

Best of luck.

We were really looking forward to our weekend away to the House in the Clouds to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. It is not cheap at £525 per night in January but we thought it would be a wonderful treat for such a special occasion. How wrong we were. Although striking from the outside, the inside is a disappointment, claustrophobic and rather tatty. The dining table in the draughty kitchen is very cramped, with uncomfortable pews providing the seating. The multiple flights of stairs, described by the owners as "easy" are, in fact, steep and inadvisable for the elderly or the very young. And once you have mounted the 68 steps to the striking games room at the top of the house, you are met with an Arctic experience as it is woefully under-supplied with heating (one small radiator and an inadequate gas fire), making it usable on only the warmest of days. And warmth is a real issue: the ageing boiler failed on numerous occasions during our stay, forcing us to alter our plans in order to contact and await visits by a local handyman and a British Gas engineer. Yet despite the discomfort of a day without heating (on a freezing, snowy January weekend), the owners (disgracefully) did not feel that this was worthy of any refund whatsoever. Not recommended.

I bought a pair of pyjamas reduced in final reductions. From £19.50 to £9. Yet the decor states it is on selected items. Paid for them at the food tills and wasn't told i couldn't return them. Then i found a pair of jeans from £32.50 to £21 to £14. I went to pay for them at the textile till and the guy who served me told me they were non returnable. He did point out the fitting rooms but i didn't have time to try them on. So i told him to forget it and left the store. So i wasn't happy at getting two different messages.

Couldn't agree more about Trollied. Everything you said my husband and I have said about series 2. Such a shame, although it seems to have picked a little (and less gross interactions between Colin and Lisa).
